Nasi Kerabu is a traditional Malay rice dish, in which blue-coloured rice is eaten with dried fish or fried chicken, crackers, pickles and other salads. It is very popular in the east coast states of Peninsular Malaysia such as Kelantan and Terengganu as well as in southern Thailand where it is known as khāoyam. The blue color of the rice is naturally dyed and comes from the petals of bunga telang (blue pea flower) a well known superfood. 

We will be spending our morning soaking in the lively vibes of the Bedok wet market as we treat our senses to the variety of herbs, their colours, shape and sizes. In this guided market experience, you will learn how to pick the best and freshest ingredients and also have a hand in purchasing some of the ingredients that we will be using for our Nasi Kerabu. We'll then take a slow morning stroll whilst enjoying some good local kueh and stop by Asha's community garden where you'll get to pick some of the freshest blue pea flowers in the garden before heading back to our home studio where you will be learning and making your own authentic Nasi Kerabu.

    We will also be exploring the different types ulam-ulaman (malay herbs/salad) and the different types of lauk (condiments) that will pair well with our Nasi Kerabu.

    Each participant will also be taking home each a packet (15g) of dried blue pea flowers for future use.
