What is Black Out Poetry?

Blackout poetry focuses on rearranging words to create a different meaning. Also known as newspaper blackout poetry, the author uses a permanent marker or any other mediums to cross out or eliminate whatever words or images she sees as unnecessary or irrelevant to the effect she's seeking to create. The central idea is to devise a completely new text from previously published words and images, which the reader is free to interpret as she wishes.

Take a pause and join us in this community initiative where you will craft out your own black out poetry using recycled books that have been generously donated by ladies in our community. Enjoy the process of reconstructing words and allow your creativity to flow creating masterpieces using an array of art mediums. In our usual tradition, there will be comforting food for the soul, conversations and space for you to reconnect with yourself and others.

We invite you, seekers of knowledge and lovers of language to join us in this session. Come as you are, wherever and whatever state you think you are in. All materials will be provided.

Session is free for all.
